If they could include tiny side POC, why couldn’t they make a main character a POC? It has literally nothing to do with the historical accuracy, and everything to do with the fact that disney’s shitty.
ooh my god
they have had actually quite a few minority princesses
like actually quite a few
this argument really kind of irritates me
Can I just point out that this is a children’s movie? Y’all get upset so easily.
shut the fuck up and come back when you have an actual argument
hey now you poc. this is a children’s movie!! i have no idea why you’re getting so upset tbh :// its not like poc people. are aso. capable of having. and raising. or being. children?? no such thing as poc children. so just dont say anything AT ALL. about representation for poc in children’s movies because its not like there are poc children in the first place am white or am i right? *shakes head solemnly and continues watching tv show with all white cast for four hours straight*
POC are entirely capable of raising children. I am, in fact, the child of.. wow! A POC! Mexican! So POC! So I’m going to state for a second why this argument actually irritates me. Keep in mind, this is in regards to DISNEY PRINCESSES and I will not speak for other Disney films, because they are not the subject at hand. So here goes:
I’m going to leave out pre-Ariel princesses due to the eras that they were produced in, since the time then was extremely racist and a POC princess was not going to happen, period.
1. The Little Mermaid (1989) - White princess. Cool.
2. Beauty and the Beast (1991) - Another white princess. Okay. Grew up hardcore on this movie and Belle was like my idol.
3. Aladdin (1992) - Whoa! An Arabic princess!
4. Pocahontas (1995) - Native American Princess. Awesome. I wanted to be her.
5. Mulan (1998) - Chinese princess. Love her. One of my favorite movies growing up and to this day she’s an inspiration to me.
6. The Princess and the Frog (2009) - Saw this in theaters with my best friend. Black princess! Thought she was great. Watch this movie every time I go down to New Orleans.
7. Tangled (2010) - White princess. The first since 1989. Whoa. Awesome movie, by the way, and Flynn Rider is a megababe.
8. Brave (2012) - Merida is basically my spirit animal. Also white. Also a princess in fucking Scotland. Where there has never been a non-white Princess. Cool.
8 princesses since Ariel. Again, like I said, not counting the ones pre-Ariel because of the time periods they’re from. 4 white. 4 POC. Awesome. Diversity.
Frozen’s out now, so technically that’ll add two more princesses to the white category. That’s fine. I’m sure it’s a great movie, I’m hoping to see it soon. Been too busy with finals for that. So now we have 6 white princess and 4 non-white princesses. Do I think there could be more diversity? Probably, but Disney is definitely not going bankrupt as a company and I’m sure there will be more princesses in the future. Know what I want to fucking see? A Latina princess. Will I get one? Maybe. Am I going to whine if there isn’t one for a while? Nah.
There has been a lot of diversity in the Disney princesses up until Tangled came out. Disney isn’t excluding POC in their films by any means, and I can guarantee we haven’t seen the last POC princess. That’s why this argument fucking pisses me off.
It is okay to want to see POC in the media. I would like to see more POC in the media. I like to see diversity in my movies and TV shows. But that doesn’t mean everything is inherently racist, including the Disney princess films, because there are fucking POC princesses and they went a long fucking time after Belle before we even saw another white princess. Thanks.
ok im assuming you’re talking to someone else because ive never said that disney was racist. my argument is that people are saying shit like ‘its only a kids movie so that automatically means its not a big deal!’ when thats EXACTLY WHY its a big deal? i actually dont give. please read carefully. not one. fuck. that you are poc if youre going to use that to try and prove some kind of point that something is not racist because you’re fine with sitting on your ass and waiting. like it actually means nothing if youre still going to claim that poc have had enough representation in disney movies that its somehow an overeaction that some of us want more representation. ok. you’re ‘not racist’. nice. cool. but is it really bothering you that much? that we want more poc princesses or characters in general? because princess movies are not the only disney movies out. so idk like.. you can piss your pants while bootlicking white people all you want over this argument but in the end who cares. it doesnt matter because soon the whites will die out. we will exterminate them and the poc will inherit the earth.
